Fitness photography weekend

I must be so lucky to be able to do what I love doing.

When I got my new camera I didn’t have any intention to become a photographer. I just bough a digital camera to take better snap shots.

My first ever attempt to photograph event was at a personal training studio opening-Extreme Body gym, http://www.extremebodygym.com/.

I was amazed how different was to be behind the camera and I loved every moment of it.

On that day in March 2009 I decided that photography will be my new hobby.

Later when I got more into it I changed my mind. Photography was not only my hobby, it was something coming from my soul and I wanted to become at it better and to pursue it as a profession.

I was fortunate to be in an industry surrounded with so many great looking and fit people. I knew immediately what I want to specialize in and it was something very familiar, something I have done it for years but in front of the camera-fitness and glamour photography.

Week after week I started practising and photographing my colleagues, competitors and champions.

One can not express the excitement to be able to create a picture in a way they feel is the best and express their ideas and views via the photo work.

And this is just the beginning

Saturday photo shoot got me injured

This Saturday I have organized a massive photoshoot with my photography buddy Steven at the MCC studio. We had 4 male models and 2 female models. I thought at first that this will be like any of the rest of my photo shoots when a model poses for me just half an hour and we are done. But… we had so much fun on the set so none of our models left before 4pm…and the last couple were done just after 5.30pm. I had the camera in my hands for 6 hours straight without any breaks. I didn’t even realize the time was gone so fast. We ended up with more then 800 photographs each which was  a great amount of photos to select from. On the way home I realized that my wrist was hurting so bad… ah I was afraid I will have to visit the doctor next day. Thanks to my ability to recover fast (something that my body adopted from my 20+ years of training) I felt ok next day and hit the gym. I have forgotten today about my small injury but next time I will make sure to prevent this from happening again-I didn’t know that photography may cause an injury to some and specially a person who exercises quite regularly. And thanks to all those who participated in the photo session. I had a blast!

Sunday photo shoot

This Sunday I had photography session with the very talented photographer Frank Sartori.

The weather was so cold (I believe it was only 11 degrees Celsius) but I have managed to stay calm and just do my poses. We did the shoot at the Fitzroy gardens, the location is just lovely and every time I pass by I just can’t stop admiring the view!

We had so much fun and we were able to finish the session in two hours although I thought we should’ve finished it earlier as it was only one look.

Yes I recently cut my hair I wanted to cut my hair a long time ago is so much easier to manage. And I believe short hair also looks good on certain women. I love Halle Berry ’s looks when she was with short hair.

Any way as we were nearly ending the session I asked Frank to download all the photos on my lap top and we were discussing how models and photographers have different opinions on the final results of the photos. I didn’t realize this until I became a photographer myself. When I was only in front of the camera a while ago I was evaluating the photos upon my looks only and if I didn’t like the pose or how my body and face looks. And if I was to find that my pose is not flattering or I had more spots on my face then usual I wasn’t happy with the photo. But now since I have been behind the camera as a photographer I find that sometimes models like other photos and photographers like different collection of photos. While the model mostly look for their pose and wrinkles photographers look for the lighting, composition, expression of the model and overall impression of the photo. I guess since I now have the both experiences in front and behind the camera this can only benefit me and help the model to look their best when I am photographing. And when I am modeling I can simply have more ideas pose better and just be more creative. I love the photography world. I can’t wait until my next photo shoot this time behind the camera only in a week. By Mariya Mova

Winter blues

I always admire people who will be totally dedicated no matter what the season is. I see people as early as 6am to run on the streets of Melbourne despite the cold weather. Most people get demotivated during winter and get slack. The gym has been very quiet this week. Classes not full as usual. One way to stay in shape is to allow more rest for the body. Keep eating clean-essential vitamins and minerals are very important during the winter season. Our bodies usually crave junk food during this season because of the cold weather physiologically body needs more fat. We can manipulate that by eating unsaturated fat to keep you warm like  unsalted nuts, avocados and fish. If you are reaching for junk food try pop corn-is the best of all to snack on-is low on calories and fat and is some what healthier then other junk snack foods. And not long until the next season so keep smiling.

Healthy eating

For some reason I had to discuss a lot with my clients about dieting and nutrition lately. I am also a member of few diet sites as well as some of my clients compete in figure and bikini contests. The topic healthy eating and dieting for weight loss has touched me a lot lately. Both methods are completely different when it comes to achieving the desired goal. Not to mention that every individual is totally different and it depends on ones physiology and mental strengths when it comes to body fat loss and will power. Healthy eating is not the same as eating for body fat reduction. Also while some people may believe they eat healthy I find this is not the case sometimes. Many people specially women also find themselves sometimes bingeing and eating way too much at once. There can be many reasons to why people overeat-like emotional eating, being too long on a restrictive diet, tiredness, hormonal hunger, boredom etc. To be able to reduce your body fat or and maintain certain weight one should look at their age, gender, mental strengths, social habits, activeness, flexibility, food strategies for manipulation the body, available sources, limitations, physiological capabilities, medical conditions etc.

Even if you decide to consult nutritionist you should make sure that the one is very professional and can understand your needs and goals.
